Give up? Don't care? That's OK, you know we live for this stuff...
Here are the films left out:
KISS OF DEATH
THE RECKLESS MOMENT
THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW
TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY
INFERNO
THE PROWLER
So Joan Bennett and Ruth Roman have been left on the cutting room floor, and four of the best films in the Oakland series have been left at home.
And the two best double-bills in the almost-totally reshuffled screening order (RAW DEAL & THE KILLING, DETOUR/PHANTOM LADY) will play on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I think either one of those would make for a stronger opening night show than NARROW MARGIN/HELL'S HALF ACRE, which would work best as a closing night double feature (always leave your audience surrounded by palm trees!!)
We await something different in LA, where some amount of deference to the Alan Rode school of programming can be expected, and in the shorter satellite festivals. There is no question that you could boil this down to a terrific 10-12 film festival, but will they? Stay tuned...
