I don't know if we really need this (a sentiment that could apply to many similar upgrade releases), but at the link you'll find an enthusiastic, thorough review of a film that demonstrated what Quentin Tarantino was capable of doing when he reined himself in, eschewed his over-the-top indulgences, didn't write his own (increasingly bloated and undisciplined) screenplays, and cast his film perfectly.
The four leads (Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Robert DiNiro and Bridget Fonda) are all stellar, and there's a genuine blend of romance and mayhem that flows naturally in a way that never, ever happened again in a QT film.
The best way to see it, of course, is on the big screen, and QT's ownership of the New Beverly Theater guarantees that JACKIE BROWN will be in the rotation there on a regular basis. It looks as though it just might play there next month--I might just have to make an otherwise-harrowing trip to LA in order to see it again...
