Eddie's love of exotic liqueurs is noteworthy, and the reference to Chartreuse (which is apparently in short supply due to the changing circumstances surrounding its production) reminded me of a scene in LE MONTE-CHARGE where Lea Massari offers Robert Hossein a choice between it and cognac. (It is, of course, far too recondite for Eddie's American audience, even in the context of "darkness has no borders.")

There are a few interesting observations about noir that I don't recall him making elsewhere--particularly the part where he distinguishes between amateurs and professionals--which are sprinkled into things in the manner of the garnish applied to the drinks he mixes in front of the audience.
Apparently Eddie's wife wanted to take the trip to Las Vegas with him, as she's in the audience and mentioned on several occasions. I don't think her taste runs in the direction of such a locale, so I suspect that she may have been there to help him (as it says in the Bible) "resist temptation."
Of course this was a book signing event for NOIR BAR, the book that Eddie was truly born to write.
