The omission of CHINATOWN from the NC e-zine's "LA" issue was ill-advised, even if it's a film that has been written about/talked to death (especially in its anniversary year). No greater foundation for the shorthand characterization of Los Angeles that has been baked into cultural discourse exists elsewhere: how that resonates with visions of the city as we stumble through the first quarter of an already tiresome century is something that shouldn't be sidestepped...
