The story is told that Alice Faye walked out on her Hollywood career because she was disgusted by Otto Preminger’s downplaying her role and upgrading Linda Darnell’s in the editing of Fallen Angel. I have to say that I am skeptical. If the story is true, she was over-sensitive. Sure, Faye may have lost a few scenes, hardly uncommon, but she has to carry – and DOES – the second half of a picture whose screenplay puts extraordinary demands upon her. The movie shows off her dramatic abilities very well.
