I once saw an Internet ballot for “Best Actress of the Fifties” that didn’t even include Susan Hayward and Eleanor Parker, at which I just threw up my hands. Although Oscar nominations are not the be-all and end-all, still, Hayward had five Best Actress noms including a win (1947-58) and Parker three noms (1950-55). They were clearly outstanding talents, among the very best, even if not iconic today. People badly confuse fame and iconography with quality.
