Act of Violence, like Pitfall, is important not only for noir, but for the entire cycle of postwar suburban angst that spans literature (Cheever, Marquand, O’Hara, Sloan Wilson’s The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit) and television (certain Twilight Zone episodes, Mad Men much later) as well.
