One of her last quality appearances was opposite Randolph Scott in "7 Men From Now." Originally, intended as a vehicle for John Wayne, Scott was cast when the Duke was too busy while working on another production which turned out to be "The Searchers."
Wayne's company, Batjac, the rights to "7 Men From Now" and he helped promote Russell for the role of "Annie Greer." She appeared to be a bit more tired and prematurely aged (possibly from alcohol) in the film, but her performance was solid enough and her beauty was still evident. Wayne had worked with Russell twice and he wanted to help her out.
The movie is one of the best features directed by Budd Boetticher with Scott playing the lead. Burt Kenedy wrote the script.
