But it's a thought that might infuriate Dan H. (if he were here to infuriate, that is...) since it suggests (as has also been stated previously) that film noir turns into an American staple after the release of DI. Wikipedia's numbers do support this notion: 27 noirs from 1940-43, 23 in 1944, 28 in 1945, 48 in 1946, 64 in 1947...
That truism doesn't really add anything fresh to a book that voluble reviewer Gerald Peary calls a "rehash."
I continue to think that denizens/lurkers here can afford to wait until the book gets remaindered before acquiring it..
