The reviewer here is not as sanguine as others, but the mercurial Spanish director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego just might have made the best "hit man" film of all the recent forays into that sub-genre.
For a review that gives us more hope for that:

AMERICAN STAR refers to a shipwreck that plays an important symbolic role in the story of an aging hit man (played with requisite laconic world-weariness by 81-year old Ian McShane) as his "last job" becomes more complicated and problematic as he waits for his target to arrive in sub-blasted Fuerteventura (Canary Islands).
Lopez-Gallego has assembled a solid cast from folks he's worked with in the past (McShane, Thomas Kretschmann, Nora Arenezder) and the film also features an intriguing cameo from Fanny Ardant.
The film will be released in select US theaters next Friday (January 26) and word is that there will be some streaming arrangements in place shortly thereafter. We'll keep an eye out for those and report on them as soon as they emerge.
