Names in bold are common between Dan and SR. The balance of SR list shown at bottom in italics...
Humphrey Bogart
Lauren Bacall
Orson Welles
Richard Conte
Dennis O'Keefe
Robert Mitchum
Edmond O'Brien
Robert Ryan
Richard Widmark
Barbara Stanwyck
Lawrence Tierney
Gloria Grahame
Lizabeth Scott
Rita Hayworth
John Garfield
Ava Gardner
Alan Ladd
Veronica Lake
Sterling Hayden
So it's five in common, and seven that diverge--which makes a total of fourteen that are only on one list or the other.
Of the fourteen that diverge, let's try ordering them:
Garfield-Grahame-O'Brien-Widmark-Conte-Ladd-Scott-Hayden-Lake-Hayworth-O'Keefe-Tierney-Gardner
(Note that I'm leaving Welles off the list, as he is more actor-director and thus is really in a class by himself.)
For the first five--if we go with that designation due to being on both lists--we'd have something like Ryan-Bogart-Stanwyck-Mitchum-Bacall.
So that gives us seventeen, and we'd lop off the final four (Hayworth-O'Keefe-Tierney-Gardner...remember, Welles has been set aside...) for a refurbished top 12:
Ryan-Bogart-Stanwyck-Mitchum-Bacall-Garfield-Grahame-O'Brien-Widmark-Conte-Ladd-Scott.
My take would be that Bacall would drop to the back of this line, with Grahame probably moving to #5, then the "five amigos" (Garfield-O'Brien-Widmark-Conte-Ladd-Hayden) and, finally, Scott. (I can hear ChiBob groaning already!)
So, in other words:
Ryan-Bogart-Stanwyck-Mitchum-Grahame-Garfield-O'Brien-Widmark-Conte-Ladd-Scott-Bacall
See what you think of that list. Personally, I'd take Bacall off the list, or drop her down into the four bubbling under, behind everyone but Gardner. If we do that, then Hayden would become #12...
