A few of the exterior filming locations used in "Chicago Deadline" still exist such as the landmark St. John Cantius Catholic Church and the nearby Michalik Funeral Home, which is within walking distance of the church, is still in business. Other locations are gone such as "Levinson's" jewelers and the elevated train platform where Arthur Kennedy spots Donna Reed. The public transit line still exists, but the train platform across from Union Station was removed and replaced with a subway train station.
"Chicago Deadline" is going to be shown at the Music Box again this year on August 29th @ 7:00 pm. It has been paired with "Larceny" @ 9:00 pm.
The success of "Chicago Deadline" led Paramount to film another Alan Ladd feature on location in Gary, Indiana, "Appointment with Danger" (1950). Several important scenes were filmed at Gary's former passenger railroad station. This same terminal building was abandoned and its decaying shell was featured decades later in "The Original Gangstas" (1996).
