A masterwork, an ongoing cautionary tale, a neo-noir Cold war thriller
Just a brief notation in lieu of a review from my viewing of OPPENHEIMER yesterday. The betrayal sub-plot between Strauss (an almost unrecognizable Robert Downey Jr., his best work in years) and Oppenheimer (a majestic, inwardly towering performance from Cillian Murphy) is textbook noir that manages two surprising and satisfying twists.
Christopher Nolan has wedded "new age spectacle" with "old school plot and dialogue" to make what might be the most remarkable film thus far in the 21st century. You are urged--urgently--to go see it for yourselves.
