Over at Mystery*File, David Vineyard takes a look at Richard Webb's 1945 noir THE SPIDER, a solid little B-noir rarely talked about that features Richard Conte as a wise-cracking private eye in New Orleans. Good info and a comparison with an earlier review of the film by another Mystery*File stalwart, Dan Stumpf. David points out that this is a film with more recognizable names than usual for a "B"--in addition to Conte, there's Ann Savage (as David notes, somewhat underused), Kurt Kreuger, Martin Kosleck, Faye Marlowe, Cara Williams, and (as Conte's "manservant") Mantan Moreland.
