John moves much closer to the present day with looks at THE BLACK DAHLIA (2006) and BLACK RAIN (1947). One of the comments suggests that the actors in the former are children masquerading as adults, reminding us of similar observations made here about the actorly gravitas that is so striking in the original noir cycle. (Something about living through WWII...ya think?)
It would've been interesting if he'd managed to access the 1975 TV movie about the Elizabeth Short murder case entitled WHO IS THE BLACK DAHLIA...with, of all people, Lucie Arnaz (daughter of Lucy & Desi) playing the title role. Against all odds, she's very good, and she's supported by an oddly effective turn by Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as the investigating cop.
