A step up for Sears with the gripping but ultimately anti-climactic fictionalized story of Caryl Chessman, the "Red Light Bandit" who became a lightning rod with respect to the debate over capital punishment...

William Campbell is a bit too sneery to make his fictionalized Chessman sympathetic...but that may have been a decision by the film's production team to avoid a dance with the Hays Office.
