Good cast of guest performers as well. Mae Clarke had a promising career, but suffered a nervous breakdown after being in an automobile accident and suffering marital problems. Universal recast the role of Elizabeth in "The Bride of Frankenstein" with Valerie Hobson replacing Clarke who was in no condition to work when the production was scheduled to begin shooting.
Clarke recovered and resumed acting, but she was no longer offered the same quality roles that she had earlier on. James Whale had used Clarke in "Waterloo Bridge" and "Frankenstein." Her notable film noir credit was in a supporting role in "I Died a Thousand Times" a color remake of "High Sierra."
