The three films in question:
LA ROUGE EST MIS (1957, Gilles Grangier) with Jean Gabin, Lino Ventura
LA DOS AU MUR (1958, Edouard Molinaro) with Jeanne Moreau, Gerard Oury
UN TEMOIN DANS LA VILLE (1959, Edouard Molinaro) with Lino Venture, Fabio Fabrizi
At last, a Kino set that begins to delve into the "lost continent" of French film noir, with two films from the early FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT festivals included (UN TEMOIN was in FRENCH #1 in November 2014, which was its American premiere; LA DOS AU MUR played on the closing night of FRENCH #2 in November 2015. As Glenn notes, LA ROUGE EST MIS is a "lesser" Gabin and has yet to play at a FRENCH festival.)
Glenn is especially enamored with LA DOS AU MUR, but he gives solid "thumbs up" to all three films in the set, which will make a perfect Xmas gift to yourself (hint, hint!).
When Glenn notes that UN TEMOIN didn't get a premiere in America until 2014, he's unknowingly referencing FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT, which has provided American premieres for more than thirty French noirs (which is why we continue to call it "the lost continent").
