Hard to know (especially from 1500+ miles away with little hope of attending in person...) whether the play as described is going to work, but a Japanese-Canadian hard-boiled PI trading quips and shots with his fellow characters sounds as though it could make for at least a semi-diverting night at the theater...

Shiomi does not play his own lead character, but directs--and it is the third installment of an ongoing series of Asian PI-themed plays, which will dispel the notion that noir is a new discovery for Shiomi. (His first in the series, YELLOW FEVER, was originally stage in 1982!) Perhaps this one will also get to off-Broadway and PI Sam Shikaze will become the Marlowe of the post-postmodern world...
