But...at least they will be showing some film noir next month. The Coolidge and the Brattle are the culprits, as you might expect--two venerable repertory houses who've continued to thrive. The Coolidge has a weekly show, while the Brattle will concentrate its fire during the middle of the month. Here are the combined listings:
November 1 (Coolidge) DOUBLE INDEMNITY*
November 8 (Coolidge) LOST HIGHWAY (BTW, this is Election Night...Lynch on Election Night??)
November 11 (Brattle) T-MEN
November 12 (Brattle) BORN TO KILL/FRAMED
November 13 (Brattle) DEAD RECKONING/DARK PASSAGE
November 14 (Brattle) DESERT FURY/RIDE THE PINK HORSE
November 15 (Coolidge) OUT OF THE PAST*
November 16 (Brattle) KISS OF DEATH/CROSSFIRE
November 17 (Brattle) JOHNNY O'CLOCK/THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI
November 22 (Coolidge) CHINATOWN
November 23 (Coolidge) DRUNKEN ANGEL
November 28 (Coolidge) DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS*
November 29 (Coolidge) GILDA*
Events marked with an asterisk (*) have pre-screening intros from local academics
The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that the Brattle's program is all 75th anniversary titles (all films from 1947). The two theatres clearly cooperated in terms of scheduling: OUT OF THE PAST, which should be part of the Brattle's lineup, is screening at the Coolidge right in the middle of the 75th anniversary run.
A solid selection of 1947 noir, and nice to see the Brattle fearlessly put BORN TO KILL up on a Saturday night. Hope they get a great crowd for it.
