I just so happened to watch The Cruel Tower last night in a pretty damn good print (much better than what is on YouTube). A good deal of fun that falls on the periphery of full-fledged noir. Mc Graw was hilarious, John Ericson was an over ripe hunk and Mari Blanchard was an absolute babe. It is a vertiginous cartoon. Speaking of Blanchard, I checked the Imdb critic review (since there is only one). It’s from the Palm Springs Noir Festival of 2021 where the writer says that Alan Rode had interviewed Mari Blanchard and asked her about working with McGraw. Poor Mari died in 1970 at only 47, so I wonder under what auspices Alan would have interviewed her?
