Also--American exceptionalism at work...definitely some Japanese and French titles that could work here. Most of those are from the 60s, however, and this series pretty much conforms to the old-school concept of noir's time frame (1940-1958). One that definitely fits, however, is Jean Delannoy's OBSESSION (1954), with Michele Morgan and Raf Vallone, which was screened three years ago as part of THE FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT 5 1/2.
