Edited by Dan in the MW on 12/31/2021, 4:51 pm I hope that the "Nightmare Alley" remake is better than this trash.
I just caught a few minutes of his appearance in an over the top, hyper-kinetic update on F. Scott's Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby." While produced on a lavish and opulent scale, the adaptation essentially trashed the novel. It made the earlier renditions with Alan Ladd and Robert Redford look definitive (I have not seen the Warner Baxter original) and much better in comparison.
It was god awful and disrespectful to the material with rappers performing at a speakeasy and a terrible character playing Meyer Wolfsheim making Howard Da Silva look like Laurence Olivier. The film treated the 1920s like a depraved Roman orgy.
