I was unaware of the existence of a quality print of this lesser Eagle-Lion film.
"Open Secret" is a decidedly "B" film that never fully delivers upon its sensational potential. It has a few good moments and the cinematographer, George Robinson, manages to add a few flourishes to a low budget effort.
As an expose of bigotry, "Open Secret" seems awfully similar to "Close Up" and "Jigsaw" as far as message pictures go.
One extremely effective addition to the script shows the alcoholic Roman Bohnen character is guilty of spousal abuse in addition to being a contemptible bigot. He would rather blame others for his failures than sober up and get a job. His pitiful wife nails her one scene.
