The "Peggie Castle film festival" can't come close to filling up a schedule as extended as the flagship NC shows, or even a long weekend deep dive like FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT, but it could provide a pretty wild snapshot of the fifties. Consider:
INVASION USA (1952) The anti-Commie film on acid...
I, THE JURY (1953)
99 RIVER STREET (1953) Wasted as a faithless wife...
THE LONG WAIT (1954) Not wasted as a femme fatale.
FINGER MAN (1955) plus...Tim Carey!
THE COUNTERFEIT PLAN (1957) Brit-noir with Zack Scott as the bad guy.
This group probably fits into a 50s festival that focuses on the alluring women in noir/crime during the decade. Gloria Grahame is in the "high rent" district, so recalibrate toward folk like Mari Blanchard. This is actually a great topic for ChiBob to tackle...(hint: Anita Ekberg!)... :-)
