Frank Lovejoy was a solid actor who died too soon.

He also did some radio and television work. His series "Night Beat" about an after hours newspaper reporter on "The Chicago Star" was highly regarded. An effort was made to adapt the radio program for television, but apart from the pilot episode which wound up being aired as a single episode on "Four Star Playhouse" the projected weekly series never advanced.

In Chicago, WGN television broadcast a late night newscast named "Night Beat."
