Oddly (but tellingly, perhaps), the name of the sidekick character (originally Boots, played by Warren Oates) has been changed to...
...Oates.
Director Chadd Harbold (a busy multi-hyphenate: a look at his IMDB page is downright enervating--he's worked so hard that he probably deserves that second "d" in his name...) seems to be in awe of the original film, which was maudit for nearly half a century...but the quote in the blurb about the film (now entering post-production for a projected 2022 release) might just be as harrowing as the original film, which had talent and experience behind the camera (Ted McCord and Conrad Hall) to mitigate much of what else might be "hinky" in the mise-en-scene...
Note the thirteen executive producers (a dress extra for the throng crowding around the table at the Last Supper) and the formidable legal representation for Ashley Benson, whose career seems to have reached terminal velocity. After the release of PP next year, we'll see if she's experienced (metaphorically, at least) the same fate as Jennifer Connelly's character in MULHOLLAND FALLS.
I am SO not looking forward to this one!
