The western you refer to is Silver Lode, and it's recommended viewing. Actually, Payne was very good in westerns in general even if some of them weren't as worthwhile as they might have been. Rails in to Laramie (again with Duryea) and Santa Fe Passage (with Faith Domergue and directed by William Witney) are well worth checking out. That Columbo episode is Forgotten Lady, one of the best, and Payne produces a lovely sensitive and affecting turn in his last screen role. Colin
