VOICE IN THE WIND is probably the high point for Lederer's career in Hollywood, though he is also very good in ADVENTURES IN VIENNA/STOLEN IDENTITY (the film that Gary Deane kinda/sorta reviewed awhile back).
Dantine was a much more limited actor, sometimes to odd extremes. One reviewer of SHADOW OF A WOMAN actually felt that his limitations oddly enhanced his performance in the film (a variant of the "so bad he's good" conceit). Warners had gotten a bit fixate on the "man who comes unhinged" films in 1944-46 (and they weren't alone--think MGM and UNDERCURRENT) and they clearly filmed a few too many of these. I like Andrea King, but she's really best as a femme fatale/bad girl type, where she has a lot of range: she just doesn't register as a "woman in distress" in my eyes.
The oddest thing about Dantine might be that years later (early-mid 70s) he transitioned into a producer and made films with (of all people) Sam Peckinpah.
