Indeed, and as I said, I don't mean to suggest the film is a poor one because of my less than enthusiastic reaction to it. It clearly sets its stall out as an edgy and unsentimental crime movie where, essentially, no one gets out alive. I maintain that any movie which hits whatever target it aims at can be said to have achieved success; that I , or anyone else for that matter, may not especially enjoy the ride can't negate this. I don't suppose I gave much thought to the melodrama vs hard-boiled dichotomy in the past, but I've come to realize I vastly prefer the former. Perhaps I always did and simply hadn't taken the time to acknowledge it. Colin
