Longtime SF Public Defender Jeff Adachi died in 2019 at the relatively young age of 60, and it was a death that raised eyebrows in the press due to actions taken by the SF Police Department to compel reporters to release what SFPD expected to be revelations that would tarnish his legacy.
It sounds as though a neo-noir could be developed around the long-standing contretemps between the SFPD and Adachi...
A brief summary of the controversy surrounding Adachi's death can be found in his Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Adachi
