Re: "Fear" and "The Gangster"
One wonders how it would have played minus Belita? For whatever reason, ice skaters were in vogue during the 1940s. Sonja Henie, Vera Hruba Ralston and Belita. Barry Sullivan described Belita in salty language as being completely clueless about movie making.
"The Gangster" suffered from important characters being saddled with ridiculous names (Shubunka, Jammey, Karty????).
Both films filled my need for new (as in new to me) material to watch. "The Gangster" was visually interesting, but had its flaws. As you said "Fear" was a Poverty Row quality film.
