"Fear" is a low budget quickie from Monogram Pictures. "The Gangster" is a B+ film from Allied Artists (a brand developed by Monogram to distinguish its bigger budget releases as opposed to the Poverty Row programmers and Bowery Boy quickies).
"Fear" was an enjoyable time waster that clocked in at a little more than an hour. "The Gangster" was more substantial (84 minutes) and pretentious in its presentation. The cast of "The Gangster" was almost a "Who's Who" of film noir actors. Paul Ivano's cinematography work on "The Gangster" was quite good.
