The cast features Lon Chaney, Jr. as Count Alucard, invited to the modern plantation by Katie (Louise Allbritton). It would be a disservice to say much more. Katie is fascinated by the occult, and she's engaged to Frank (Robert Paige). Katie's sister Claire (Evelyn Ankers) is around, and both are due to inherit the estate when the old colonel (George Irving) dies. The mansion is kept up by the servants who are Andy (Sam McDaniel) and Sarah (Etta McDaniel), in serious roles. Sam was the older brother of Hattie and Etta. In town lives Doc Brewster (Frank Craven), who latches on to the vampire angle gradually, with a push from the expert called in (J. Edward Bromberg). A judge (Samuel S. Hinds) adds some authority. Early on, there's a Madame Zimba uttering warnings.
