Stars John Cusack as a bag man working for Robert De Niro. Most of the action is at a seedy motel where Cusack meets an assortment of characters he mostly has to dispose of in order to fetch a briefcase for De Niro. One non-disposable character is Rebecca de Costa, a tall Brazilian beauty.

I have it as third-tier and there it stays, after a second viewing. IMDb rates it 5.2. I liked it well enough for a minor thing. It's not a big deal of a movie. Its plot is a lot of nonsense patched together by a speech De Niro delivers near the end. Still the cast is able to make it more than what it is by their controlled delivery that borders on self-satire, but doesn't cross the line.

The lighting is awful. The action scenes at night are a total waste. Everything is too dark. The director couldn't come up with something? Even moonlight? A lamppost?

Cusack is equally self-mocking or self-ironic in another third tier neo named "The Ice Harvest". That one's rated 6.3.

These offbeat neos are enjoyable.
