On the occasion of a new facsimile edition of Weegee's epochal NAKED CITY, Ed Halter surveys the collection whose original publication date (1945) is right in noir's uplift into the American cultural mainstream.
As you can see, however, the original book cover is not really noir-oriented, and (as Halter points out) the bulk of the material in NAKED CITY is not geared toward the nocturnal, Altonesque imagery that customarily takes center stage when Weegee's name is invoked.
