This is episode 37 from the 59-61 series,"Manhunt". This series was set in San Diego and starred Victor Jory and Patrick McVey. Jory is a detective Lt. with the police and McVey a reporter for the local paper.
Jay Novello is a second story man who has a bit of trouble while on a jewel caper. He falls through the roof of the store next door and lands on the store owner. He picks himself up and claims he is a city building inspector. He then beats a hasty exit before the medics and cops arrive. The police check out the roof where they find Novello's bag of break in tools. They trace the serial number of the drill and soon gobble up Novello.
He is quickly tied to half a dozen other jewel heists. A bit of the old 3rd degree is applied and Novello soon confesses. He is a two time felon and does not want the 3 time rap. Novello says he was only pulling the jobs to help out his neighbour. The woman has a heart condition and needs an expensive operation. Jory pulls in the woman, Ann Robinson, who of course denies everything.
Jory has his boys dig around and they soon come up with a boyfriend, Joseph Mell. Mell and Novello had done some time together. Mell and Robinson cooked up the heart condition in order to con Novello into joining the robbery scheme. Novello, who had been trying to go straight believed the story. It takes a couple of exchanges of gunfire before Mell is rounded up and everyone sent up the river.
The episode was directed by Fred Jackman Jr. Jackman started out as a cinematographer before switching to directing. He was the d of p on "Julie", "Slaughter On Tenth Ave", "Chicago Syndicate" and The Night Hold Terror".
