Hey it wouldn't be noir (or neo-noir, apparently) if it wasn't somewhat nebulous. I don't know if I can swallow b/w vs. color as a dividing line. We've also got some 1960s Sam Fuller films in no man's land that are very difficult to classify as straight noir.
And then there's Murder By Contract, which is so weird but so delightful and so different than everything that came before it. I'm declaring that the first neo-noir. Or perhaps the first noir or neo-noir black comedy.
