A fine turnout for a finely-tuned combo of the familiar and the forgotten in French noir concluded Sunday night after a four night-nine film series (September 5-8). A fine turnout and a record Sunday night crowd discovered long-lost films from the 40s (NON COUPABLE, with a ferocious performance from Michel Simon), the 50s (PORT DU DESIR, with Gabin & Henri Vidal), and the 60s (COMPARTIMENT TUEURS, Costa-Gavras’ underseen 1965 debut).
Thanks to the American Cinematheque for continuing to push the envelope beyond the “same old same old” in film noir programming.
