Therefore, to jinx it once and for all, I submit the following uber-eclectic approach to a proposed NC 18 entitled THE MAN BEHIND THE CAMERA. There are enough cinematographers deserving of mention to dole out one film per lensman, but that would be more work than they're going to want to do (and I'm not in the business of doing their work for them...), so here are ten days of double-feature tributes for fourteen (actually fifteen: I cheated on the color noir show) consummate noir craftsmen. As always, we try to cover both familiar classics and wild, wacky but worthy obscurities.
Great choices from ChiBob, but I left out Seitz, Wild, and Guffey in this incarnation-- as noted, however, there are enough top-notch guys that a second edition of this program could easily be created. Only one night for Alton, but he can return in THE MAN BEHIND THE CAMERA REDUX along with those other three guys, Ted McCord, Russell Metty, Joe Ruttenberg, William Daniels, etc., etc.

Much comfort food for Eddie here but some of these juxtapositions are more Lavine-like and probably wouldn't make the cut. One can only hope that our foray into Sam Fuller territory with THE NAKED KISS this past January won't queer the deal to do a double-barreled 60s showcase with the ageless Constance Towers, who'd be a great guest (and, let's face it, there aren't many of the original folks still with us--they would be foolish not to go for it).
And Owen...am also saving the J. Burgi Contner double bill (COP HATER/STREET OF SINNERS) and Paul Ivano (either BLACK ANGEL/THE GANGSTER or an as-yet unspecified Hugo Hass double) for the second time around...hey, FEMALE JUNGLE is here!!
