John's SYDNEY build

Greetings Gentlemen, as a teacher of Oz history to Year 10's, and a keen aircraft modeller,I have come to the realisation that a model of HMAS Sydney 2 would now be a useful display, and an interesting project. SO,I am responding to this series of posts 6 1/2 years on and an HMS Belfast kit to play with, but no sign of an Ajax yet. Is there anyone following this thread still, and if so can you please point me to an Ajax which I can purchase?

I believe the Airfix 1/600th scale version is still available...Other than (that, and) Matt's words of wisdom, I'm not aware of any Ajax stuff. Rumour was that Trumpy was going to do a 350th scale version but I haven't seen anything yet. Still waiting on my 200th scale Enterprise/Essex...

Thanks for the post Don- I will keep looking and give it a couple of weeks- something about "hastening slowly". Just bought the Academy Graf Spee so I have a "small" project there- which I will put aside if/when I find the Ajax/Tiger kit- take care- John.

And I can look in my own stash: I know I had at least 2x Airfix Ajax kits - but already used the second one, to start my HMS Exeter build.

In any case, there's got to be an Ozzie - a WHOLE lot closer (for lower shipping expense) to you - than literally the other side of the world, up here!

Also, if by now the Airfix Ajax has somehow become scarce (which it never was, before), you might have better luck finding/bashing the Airfix Tiger (scroll down): that was even more ubiquitous - including reboxing with the Airfix Daring - and (if all else fails) I know I've got at least one spare of that kit, in The Pile.

So, Welcome Aboard John - I trust this thread will draw the attention/response(s) you need - and keep us posted, buddy!*

Thanks Matty for the info. - and the welcome- I shall keep looking around for the moment but will perhaps give it a couple of weeks before re-contacting you and letting you know how I am going. As I mentioned yesterday, I have been building aircraft for years but have recently begun a few ships- Hood and Bismarck, and 6 different 1:72 varied patrol boats- and am enjoying the "change of pace" ships present- especially when the events around them are so significant. We'd love to see (i.e., I'd be happy to post) pics of any of your Ajax-bashes!

And - if the above are not yet all finished (or even then, perhaps could be upgraded/refitted) here is another opportunity for you to redeem your "Free 4-Pak" offer: any or all of the resin upgrades I am (still) developing, as part of my own Sydney build.

Indeed, you - or anybody - joining our Sydney build can get a free set of 550-scale upgrade parts (when ready, or the prototypes as are currently available).

And finally - not yet elaborated, on-line: I have long been contemplating, and will no doubt presently succumb to the temptation, to also master/upgrade the RN Twin-8inch/50cal MkVIII (or whatever), for 1/600-ish builds of the RN heavy cruisers, including Exeter, here.

So, show us your Ajax-bash(es), David!

see what I can do as I'm currently kitbashing 3 heller 1/400 scale Colbert aa cruisers. 1 as the all gun & the other as the guided missile version. the 3rd will be widened & lengthened with all new deck & superstructure to become the French aa cruiser De Grasse.
