Phil, and Gus - and anyone(s) else who was up at JaxCon'11 - how was it? Anyone have any pics for us? And what-all did who-all win, and for what?
Also, everybody: check out the NEW GALLERY - not yet with any new entries, but simplified to greatly help me add them promptly. Let me know what you think - and do me a favor, and check the links and sorting order for me (editing this thing has already made my eyes go crossed ).
"JaxCon was a raging success! Phil...did well...his Nimitz won...I think Phil is still nursing his broken toe, but manages to get around quite well...
I entered 10 subs and figured I would pick up two awards, at most, because we don't do sweeps. But there were so many entries they split subs nuke and non-nuke...and I came home with one more medal than I expected...My Victorious and Astute took first and second in the nukes and (will wonders never cease) my little Pirana took first in non-nukes!
...We tied our entrant record set last year of 105. Had 465 models in competition and a coupla tables of "display only". Vendor tables sold out...thanks again for (Matt Stein Models') sponsorship!...
I am about to wrap up the Type II and will try to get you some pix soon. For some reason I can't put my finger on, I am just not pleased with the Type 214 and it is currently on hiatus...
I have done nothing but subs for over a year and am anxious to get to something different...Have several other projects in mind to help me resist the siren song of all those Gatos and Type VIIs I have yet to build... I now have a Predator, Reaper and Global Hawk UAVs, all in 1/48 that attract me. Also want to do a sort of vignette piece with a Meteor "flipping" a V-1 buzzbomb...saw that on the Hitler Channel. Will use either the old AMT or the newer Tamiya kits for that...So many models, so little time!...
Are you continuing to beat that Revell Il-4 into submission?...(I'm) still looking for a Toga Il-4 to show up. Don't remember where I saw it, but I ran across a pic of a Pe-8 (I think) that looked a lot like an Il-4 on steroids with four engines..."
Bravo-Zulu, Guys!

Outstanding - congrats to you and Phil, Gus!
Yes, I am taking aim at that IL-4 bash - will have to get in line behind (at least) my RAAF Boston refit - but yes, please do keep an eye out for (especially) earlier ancestors of that mold for me, buddy!
I see we're about to lose you again, at least for a little while, to "the Dark Side" - I can't see anything in all those aircraft you mentioned that comes even close to being a naval subject. The closest being possibly the Buzz Bomb scene - if you were to change it to a USN Loon, being fired from a Fleet Boat. (Tempting, possibly...? OK - I'll lay off.)
Your contributions have been outstanding, and I'm really looking forward to that big, fat Type-II kit, coming up! As for your Type-214, perhaps you should compare your mental image against your Type-212A, which was another just outstanding build of yours. (Especially as photographed - in late-afternoon sunlight, on your wavelet-topped patio table - by yours truly! )
Seriously though, Gus: I don't for a minute doubt any of your three prize-winners were judged as such - all top-notch craftsmanship, and artistry. Plus, don't discount your little Piranah as additionally being a very unusual and interesting subject - I'm sure that must count for (at least) something, in the judging.
And nobody could doubt the prize-winning potential of Phil's (astounding) Nimitz - thanks for letting us know it got its just acclaim. (Maybe at least he will keep building and sending us something naval-related...)
Just kiddin' ya there, buddy - you know we love ya - and glad to demonstrate the same, in whatever small way, for your club, too!
Thanks for a great SitRep, Gus - here's a big "Get Well Soon", going out to Phil's Toe - and will look forward to hearing from you guys again soon, buddy!
