Once the Cold War ended the books and movies started flowing like water. Best one was retired Admiral Yogi Kaufman who's son just happened to be a National Geographic photographer. Next thing ya know there's a four part movie "Sharks Of Steel" coming out and the matching book. The book had topside and interior photos hitherto unseen. This was 1991-ish. Fast forward to 1996 and Dragon/DML is releasing their 700th scale SSN series. You'd have thought they'd have bought a copy of the book, eh?
They missed simple crap like the fact that the forward VLS tubes are not all in a row. They "fixed" that error, but they fixed it wrong. They did the tubes as (from left to right) 3-3-3-3 whereas it should be 2-4-4-2. And resin boys Blue Water Navy kept that same old error. And it was 2002 before manufacturers stopped putting a vertical fin on the ends of 688 stern planes!
And then of course, we won't go in to Revell not putting flood holes/drain vents on their 72nd scale Gato and U-boats...
