I have only ever seen one other guy who created true portraits like this - builds immediately evocative more of oil paintings than anything else. Donny (and everybody), do you remember Bruno Schielzeth(sp?) and his aircraft builds? Well, Tim's Gato is the only other one I've seen like that - except "x10", on a boat like this! And I have never seen anyone depict the slick, "black iron"-looking plating of a black-painted sub better than this, right here. This is just one of Tim's many inspiring effects, above, that I am sure to try and learn how to mimick (probably on my S-boat).
The crew figures, expertly rendered, are of course exaggerated (especially their eyes) but - together with the painting-like feel, extreme violent action, and even some dark humor (the puking sailor is great ), - the overall impression IMHO is like a graphic novel (in the Old Days, a "comic book" - and a good one, at that)!
Also the total of skills to make all of it come together are top-notch - again, just a great job, Tim! A truly unique submission - I hope it does indeed win a prize, which it richly deserves - Good Luck at the Nats, buddy.
And Thanks Again for submitting this gem to ModelFleet, Tim!
Cheers,
-Matty
