USN Heavy Cruiser
Trumpeter 1:700

I've started on a new endeavor - plastic!...Here's the start of the latest project(: an)...out of the box New Orleans...I think I mentioned that I was going to build a couple of New Orleans class cruisers - three actually: New Orleans, Minneapolis, and Astoria. They are all very similar and I have Trumpeter's 1/700 scale kits for them. A bit of a break from resin.
The "project" is to build two kits - in this case, two New Orleans class cruisers (Trumpeter). One "nude", and the other with the absolutely wonderful White Ensign PE set...trying to build "out of the box"...is turning out to be quite a challenge. I've never been able to follow a recipe without making changes and that mental state appears to carry over to modeling, as I merrily carved off the cast on prop guards, intending to use PE. Oops! So I took the hull out of the second kit and started over.
...I haven't put the SOC-3's on the cats because the kit doesn't come with any cradles. I can build 2, but I don't know if that's allowed in the (IPMS JaxCon) OOB category.
...I'm keeping track of the time, glitches (like - don't paint in the rain), etc. (LMAO, Phil! -Ed) ...She took 20 hours start to finish. I'm estimating...a couple of months for the PE version...(and when the second one is finished) I want to set them side by side and see if...all the bells and whistles are really worth the lengthy increase in time and effort.
...I'll send pics as I go along.
