But regarding the Shermans, I went back through that episode ("Return of the Allies"), which contains dozens of pics of Shermans in the jungle - clearly from Pacific campaigns, and almost always viewed from behind - and while many had large, white stars, none had those wide, white lines as seen inside the LST, above. In fact, all but one lacked any other marking(s) of any kind - the one exception being a Sherman with thinner white stripe on (at least) the left-front corner of the hull. Appearing at minute=20:08, it is seen inside the Manilla baseball stadium - so it's bona-fide Philippines invasion footage.
Likewise, Stuarts are seen repeatedly in jungle settings - often following right behind a Sherman, and again, none of them painted with any large, white stripes, etc. - in what is clearly Pacific theater footage. And of course the above closeup Stuart clips include driving past Philippino townspeople, so they are clearly the Real Deal, as well.
In North Africa, didn't the large white stars also have a white (or yellow) circle around them, as well?
