(I had to repost this whole thread, due to a Board problem.)
I checked (WikiPedia) and those three 50cals and one 30- were (the later) standard. And also I saw where they said the Finnish tactic was to "diive from altitude...like Chennault and the Flying Tigers" - just exactly as we figured! And I also saw that the Finnish kill ratio using the Buffalo (which they never called them) was quite possibly the highest ever achieved - by anyone, anywhere - and that one Brewster, flown by multiple aces, was probably the highest-scoring airframe ever to exist!
It's astounding how much and for how long this has been completely overlooked by (Anglo-American) history. Personally, I think there was some marketing/political BS going on between competitors Grumman and Brewster (and of course you saw who won), though that's a much less interesting story.
