Yup. A man in our neighborhood, "The village idiot" we call him. He's been hearing voices for years. But he has the mental where-with-all to know some folks are getting free phones. He applied and came to our house because he got turned down. Apparently you have to be a 'Head of Household' in order to qualify for one. He wanted to use our phone to call the FBI to complain. He's in his mid 30's, living at home, Dad has a good job, pulling down $40K/year he gets a government check every month that keeps him in beer and smokes, has mooched a car ride from most folks in town to get to where he can spend his beer and smokes money because Dad won't take him, he's even tried to mooch beer money off'n us, we (you and I) take care of his medical bills, he might even be getting food stamps. Now, he doesn't think he should have to fork out $7/month (TracFone basic) for a cell phone.

I know the Lord wants us to help others but my wife and I have a hard time extending help to someone who doesn't need it.

Honestly, if folks didn't get a free phone when all there was, was land line service, why should they get a free ride now? Most communities have a system whereby folks in poor financial straits can get free phone service for incoming calls, and outgoing to emergency numbers only. Why oh why should someone get 4 free hours of phone use a month who didn't earn it?
