Is it not crazy that any one person can donate $400m to a political party. I just don't understand how it is allowed in a so called democratic country .
It's not because it's going to Trumps republicans, I don't like Trump..but I would feel the same about any political parties getting that large a sum from one person, it stinks to high heaven.

Musk now has so much money he wants to run countries. Whether its boredom, whether its ego, maybe its he sees a way to profit from it.
Not just trump (but he does have a lot of government contracts which i imagine he may find harder to come by if the midterms go badly against trump), but the AFD in Germany, Restore here (reform weren`t extreme enough)
Not to mention his oft heard claims that the Uk is heading for a civil war - so much so he funds yaxleys defence, speaks at rallys etc.
And the we have starlink - slows down the speeds to make it easier for russia to kill Ukrainian kids, just to pressure them into bending to trumps will and possibly profiting from russian markets. Of course he backtracked a bit when he realised that Europe is quite a big starlink customer - and if it proves to be unreliable and at musks whim, it may be best to look elsewhere

Yeah actually I would . It really isn't about who it has gone to, it is just wrong .
Too many rich fuckers getting away with corruption I just dont understand why people who have so much just don't give most of it away.
Nobody needs a billion.
There should be a cap put on how much someone can donate to a party that includes money from unions. I reckon £5000 from an individual and a million in total to anyone party tops,the parties would then have to trim down their political campaigns to suit.

There isn't a cap, but donations have to be "from a permissible source", and any donation above £11,180 has to be reported to the Electoral Commission and recorded on a public register. Also, there are legal limits on how much parties can spend during election campaigns.

For that to happen the sitting government would have put limits in place. The sitting government is likely to be getting more donation than any other party so it wont happen.
However you do wonder why a foreign based crypto billioniare would just give millions to some party, including 5 million to soeone who wasnt an MP if they arent seeking some form of influence

Everyone who donates is after more than the odd favour. The Uk in the past has pointed the finger at other countries for being corrupt but we are at it as much as anyone.
As for Musk he is probably one of the most dangerous men on the planet.

And yes agreed about Musk. Is it any wonder he got pissed off when Ukraine blew up the russian bot farm ? They drive the posts, and his income, and spread his message

We live in a crazy world. Someone paid £2m for a bottle of scotch the other day. The good that could be done with that £2m makes me feel a little bit ill,its basically a fucking great ego trip probably, wont even drink it, the fucker.

Trump let Musk run riot with the very agencies that were protecting people from his exploitation, Musk doesn't give £400m for nothing. Just a crypto billionaires don't give away millions without strings.
British and US politics have always had a dubious whiff about them but right now it's magnified by more than an order of magnitude and is rampant and blatant.
