The last gig you went to

To complete the set after the first/best/worst threads: who did you last see in concert? Mine was Fatboy Slim launch a reissue of his debut album Better Living Through Chemistry play at The Royal Society Of Chemistry a couple of weeks ago. Great fun: we were all given matching white lab coats to dance around in. In the next unusually busy month, I’ll be seeing Lime Garden, Squeeze, The K’s, Duran Duran, Paul Heaton, The Guest List and Courteeners.
I saw Big Special at The Craufurd Arms a while back. Not really my thing, but couldn’t fault that they really meant it. I bought the Lime Garden tix for Brixton Electric what seems like ages ago, can’t wait to see them. One of the best guitar pop albums of the year.
Was over with the Mrs and found out last minute they were playing next to our hotel. They perform in the pitch black which works well for seated venues (seen them do the same at the Barbican and RFH) but the Munich venue was basically a massive hall and standing only so was a bit disconcerting.
Seeing ACR at Dingwalls tomorrow. Last time they played London (in May) Paul Ballantyne was in attendance.
What these threads have shown is that most who replied don't go to live music events very often. I just don't get that, I've been going to gigs since I was 14 (50 years ago, fact fans), and I will continue to go until I expire. Music feeds the soul, and my soul needs replenishing regularly.....
I’m actually pleasantly surprised that most here seem to still make it to gigs sometimes! The eye-opener for me, to generalise, is that prog and metal are the dominant faves. File next to jazz as musically Not For Me (though Prog editor Jerry Ewing is one of the nicest blokes going), but whatever gets you going is great, really. Apart from RHCP, there are limits.
Pretty much the same for me, but I didn't start going to proper gigs till I was 16, so only 45 years for me, and I have no intention of stopping as I have quite a few lined up.
The answer to Earls question would be Vox Lumiere, assuming that counts as a gig, and if not Hawkwind at their do in Morecambe.
Maybe the question should be what's your next gig, if so, The Haunted in Manchester tomorrow night.
Skinner Brothers a few days ago, the wonderful Mercury Rev (again!) next Friday. And, though not a gig, a film about Sun Ra on Monday. (At HOME, cracking arts centre in Manchester- been there on your travels?)
Nope, not been to HOME. I like it when I go, but only seen a couple of gigs in Manchester and, yes, my next one currently IS due to be Oasis. SORRY, CRUMPS. (Did you get my PM, btw?)
Just replied! I 'get it' with Oasis but my dislike goes back a long way (sorry to Pingu, bbb etc!) Of that era I thought Richard Ashcroft was the shining talent. Followed by Lee Mathers. Unfortunately for both, the drugs worked rather too well...
Did you get away from Newcastle without a letter from the council? Last time I went to City Hall, I was on the north side and despite knowing where it was, (could see it) I couldn't see a way in to car park area. Ended up a mile along the road before getting turned. During this I went in a bus lane apparently. They sent me a photo of the car and said next time I would be fined £50. Consequently, I have never been back to Newcastle. As for last gig, Fleetwood Bac. Entertaining tribute band.
There was times I was so lonesome I took some comfort there
Our daughter in law drove us. Parked round the corner in a council carpark. No issues whatsoever.
Apart from the fact that since my brain injury I have absent seizures occasionally which means I missed the last half of the concert. Don't fall on your head. It hurts. And it fucks your life up.
As the last Euston train leaves after 1am (except weirdly on Saturdays, ofc) I’m usually fine with London gigs. It’s a shame Brum trains are relatively early, but my brother-in-law lives near New Street so we’re sometimes good for a post-gig free room at the inn: he’s a Courteeners fan too and I’ve been able to get him on the guestlist as well as part repayment.
